I've found an article about Disney's The Princess and the Frog. Read it. And the comments.
They say Disney couldn't get rid of its racism and made a white prince.
Who thinks this guy is white? I saw the original version and he has a French-or-Spanish-like accent. Definitely Hispanic. (Plus - the voice actor is from Brazil.) His name is Naveen - I know a guy called Naveen Andrews and he's of Indian descent. Mixed race, maybe, he's from Maldonia.
Some commenters say he should've been black because that would've been appropriate - now imagine a black prince from somewhere in Africa. Duh. And the fact that Tiana's mom and Tiana herself worked as servants says nothing to me - the movie is set in the '20-s.
Someone pointed out that all Disney princesses were drawn according to the stories they came from. Like Cinderella might be German with her fair hair and blue eyes. Snow White had skin like the snow - oh, Walt, you racist basterd! You should sit back and redraw that mouse of yours.
Also, someone complained about the villain being black. In the original story the one who transformed the prince was a fairy. What fairy would practice woodoo? Or Catholic priest, or something.
One last thing: kids don't care. Commenters had concerns about showing this mixed couple to their children because they might think 'black love' doen't exist. Kids usually know what's a tale and what's reality... and if someone's marriage or relationship isn't working, they shouldn't leave the parenting to a movie. Everyone needs real role models: their parents.
(yes, i got kinda crazy after reading all those stupidity... but really, who cares if a princess is black, white, chinese or native? only the fat, stupid americans who got berserk after seeing katy in sesame street.)
Soooo... What's the lil' Fernando Colunga lookalike's race? :D
